Thanks to a line of dialogue from Indiana Jones in Steven Spielberg’s 1984 blockbuster Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harrison Ford has long been linked to snakes. Researchers have discovered a new species of snake in Peru’s Andes mountains and named it Tachymenoides harrisonfordi in honor of Ford. The snake is a slender species measuring 16 inches long and is well-camouflaged with a pale yellowish-brown color and black blotches. The discovery highlights the importance of reptile conservation, as one-fifth of the world’s reptiles are threatened with extinction. Ford, known for his environmental advocacy, expressed his humbleness at the discovery and emphasized the need to protect the planet’s biodiversity.
