Germany has announced its shortlist for the 2024 Oscars, revealing 12 films from which it will select its official contender in the best international film category for the 96th Academy Awards. Among the contenders are critically acclaimed films from this year’s Berlinale, including “Afire,” “The Teachers’ Lounge,” “Elaha,” and “Sisi & I.” Notable exclusions from the list include Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days,” but his documentary “Anselm” is in the running. An independent jury will choose Germany’s official Oscar contender in August. The final five nominees for best international film will be announced in January 2024.
