After six decades and numerous acclaimed projects, Hayao Miyazaki is set to release his last directorial venture, The Boy and the Heron, later this year. The highly anticipated film, inspired by a 1937 novel, is a coming-of-age story about a young boy exploring his emotional and philosophical development. The film, produced by Studio Ghibli, has been in production since 2016 and will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. Unlike traditional marketing campaigns, the film will not have a trailer or promotional materials. The release date for international audiences is yet to be announced.
