HBO’s adaptation of the video game “The Last of Us” has been praised as a successful and faithful adaptation. The show’s first season has received positive reviews and high ratings, leading HBO to greenlit a second season. Although filming for the second season has not begun, series star Pedro Pascal hinted that production may start later in 2023. The second season is expected to be released on both HBO cable and HBO Max, similar to the first season. However, there is currently no confirmed release date, but it is projected to premiere in 2025. Pre-production on the second season has been suspended due to the ongoing WGA strike. It is speculated that the second season will adapt the plot of the video game sequel, “The Last of Us: Part II.” The show’s creator and series contributor Neil Druckmann also hinted at this possibility.
