Sky Deutschland, the German arm of Comcast-owned European pay-TV group Sky, has announced the closure of its scripted originals division. The network will wrap up its originals department and shut down completely next year. Projects currently in production will be completed, but there will be no new commissions and projects in development will be put on hold. The arrival of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime in the German market, as well as competition for sports rights from DAZN, has put pressure on Sky Deutschland. There is speculation that Comcast may be looking to sell off the company.
