79 Years Later, One of the Best Noir Thrillers Ever Debuts on a New Streamer

The Hollywood crime dramas of the 1940s, known as film noir, are marked by their cynical morality and striking black-and-white cinematography. A standout film from this genre is the 1947 thriller, Out of the Past, featuring Robert Mitchum as a private eye with a troubled history. Adapted from Daniel Mainwaring’s novel Build My Gallows High, it was directed by Jacques Tourneur while being produced by RKO with a significant budget. Celebrated for its intricate storytelling and Mitchum’s iconic performance, Out of the Past is set to stream on HBO Max starting April 1.
