Cinema has a long history of exploring the tales of samurai, with the golden era of samurai movies occurring during the 1950s and ’60s. However, the genre still lives on today, with Hollywood also incorporating elements of samurai culture in popular films like Kill Bill and The Wolverine. Video games, such as Ghost of Tsushima and Trek to Yomi, have also focused on samurai warriors. Legendary director Takeshi Kitano’s latest film, Kubi, is set to join the ranks of great modern samurai movies with its homage to the style of Akira Kurosawa. There are still quality films being released in the genre without Kurosawa.
