Jane Austen’s works have become inspirations for many movies and TV shows. Some of the notable adaptations include Greer Garson’s portrayal of Elizabeth Bennet in the 1940 film “Pride and Prejudice,” Frances O’Connor’s take on Fanny Price in the 1999 movie “Mansfield Park,” and Kate Beckinsale’s performance as Lady Susan Vernon in “Love & Friendship” (2016). Gwyneth Paltrow and Anya Taylor-Joy also played Emma Woodhouse in the 1996 and 2020 versions of “Emma,” respectively. Other notable Austen heroines include Emma Thompson’s Elinor Dashwood in “Sense and Sensibility” (1995) and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Bennet in “Pride & Prejudice” (2005).
