The upcoming live-action adaptation of the anime One Piece marks Netflix’s continued investment in live-action anime adaptations, despite previous failures in this genre. One influential anime of the 1990s, Neon Genesis Evangelion, has yet to receive its own live-action adaptation due to development issues, legal battles, and the departure of creator Hideaki Anno from Gainax. The failed live-action Evangelion project, led by Weta Workshop, never progressed beyond the concept art stage and was eventually abandoned. The rights for a live-action adaptation remain in limbo due to an ongoing lawsuit between ADV Films and Gainax. Despite these challenges, there is still demand and potential for a live-action Evangelion adaptation.
