Netflix is phasing out its basic plan for Canadian subscribers, removing the option for new users and denying current subscribers the ability to switch to it in the future. While existing basic plan users can stay on the tier, they won’t be able to switch back if they choose to upgrade or close their account. The move comes after Netflix introduced an ad-supported tier in November 2022, which turned out to be more profitable than the standard plan in the first quarter of 2023. There is no indication that the basic tier will be removed in the US.
