Blue Beetle is a new DC superhero film directed by Angel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. It follows the story of Jaime Reyes, a young college graduate who becomes the superhero Blue Beetle after coming in possession of an alien biotech relic. The film features an ensemble cast including Xolo Maridueña, Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, and Becky G. Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023, and there is currently no word on its streaming release. The film is considered a coming-of-age tale and serves as an origin story for the character in the new DC cinematic universe.
