Two years ago, Xolo Maridueña received the news that he had landed the lead role in the film Blue Beetle. However, due to the ongoing actors strike, the movie does not have a red carpet premiere or a press tour, denying the cast the chance to promote the film and celebrate its significance as the first studio superhero movie with Latino representation. Despite hopes for increased Latino representation in Hollywood, Latino actors are still underrepresented onscreen. The film is tracking for a $30 million opening, but there are concerns that its success or failure could impact future BIPOC-led projects.
