Larry David, co-creator and main writer of the hit sitcom Seinfeld, left the show after Season 7 despite its continued success. Seinfeld suffered without David’s input and lost some of its smartness, but remained popular until its series finale. David was the driving force behind the show and based characters on himself and his real-life experiences. After leaving Seinfeld, David tried his hand at writing and directing a feature film, which failed both commercially and critically. Seinfeld continued for two more seasons without David, and though still funny, it became less smart and more over-the-top. David later created Curb Your Enthusiasm and the cast of Seinfeld returned for a reunion. Seinfeld remains popular in syndication.
