Cigarette smoking is highly addictive and harmful to health, making it difficult for smokers to quit. To improve success rates in quitting, smokers often require assistance such as gum, patches, or inhalers. However, these methods have limitations. In response, researchers at Naresuan University in Thailand have developed nicotine lozenges made from the extract of little ironweed. Early results show that these lozenges provide a reasonable level of cigarette withdrawal treatment. The little ironweed lozenges are convenient to use and have been found to reduce tobacco use and the levels of harmful substances in the lungs. They are currently in the process of receiving approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
