The Last Voyage of the Demeter offers a fresh take on Dracula, with a gruesome portrayal of the vampire as he preys on the ship’s crew. Director André Øvredal aimed for a gradual reveal of Dracula, allowing the audience to see him evolve alongside the crew. Javier Botet’s excellent performance adds to the character’s creepiness. The film is based on a single chapter from Bram Stoker’s novel, showing a different side of Dracula than audiences are used to. Botet’s portrayal of Dracula is described as “feral” and uncanny.
