In today’s Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that some AirPods will receive a new hearing health feature supported by iOS 17, which can assess potential hearing issues and even measure body temperature through the ear canal. The new headphones from Apple will also feature USB-C, and there are plans for new models of AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Apple is exploring the possibility of positioning AirPods as hearing aids following FDA approval for over-the-counter sales. It is believed that the updated AirPods Pro and the new health features will not be available soon, potentially taking months or even years to develop. The introduction of temperature tracking to AirPods could provide more accurate health monitoring for wearers. The release of the second-generation AirPods Pro last year suggests a longer refresh cycle, but supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects a USB-C version of the AirPods Pro in the second or third quarter of this year, along with $99 AirPods and a new set of AirPods Max in the near future.
