In September, Airports of Thailand (AoT) will open a new satellite passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport. This expansion will increase the airport’s capacity by 15 million passengers annually, reaching a total of 60 million per year. The terminal will feature 28 contact gates and a dedicated area for children. The airport has seen a significant increase in passenger footfall, with numbers rising by 230.8% from October to May compared to the previous year. AoT’s future plans include addressing overcrowding at passport control by installing Auto Channel machines for incoming passengers from Singapore and Hong Kong, with plans to extend the service to e-passport holders from 90 nations. Additionally, the airport will implement an Automated Biometric Identification System with facial recognition technology.
