Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has released the timeline and images of a Thai elephant’s journey back to Thailand from Sri Lanka. The ailing elephant, named Sak Surin, was transported from Dehiwala Zoo in Colombo to Bandaranaike International Airport, where it was loaded onto an aircraft bound for Chiang Mai airport in Thailand. The flight is estimated to take between 5 and 6 hours, with veterinarians and mahouts on board to care for the elephant. This marks the first time a heavy animal is being transported by air.
