Kaouther Ben Hania’s documentary “Four Daughters” won the best international film award at the 2023 Munich International Film Festival. The film follows the story of Olfa Hamrouni, a Tunisian mother whose daughters joined the Islamic State in Libya. Ben Hania uses actors to portray the missing daughters in the film. Another notable film at the festival was “The Buriti Flower,” a collaboration with the Krahô people of Brazil, which won the CineVision Award for best international emerging director. Other winners include “Omen,” “Queendom,” “Fossil,” and “Fallen Leaves.”
