Eugene Lee Yang, known for his work with The Try Guys, discusses his role as Ambrosius Goldenloin in the animated film Nimona. Goldenloin, a knight who cuts off his boyfriend’s arm, undergoes a transformation for the movie version. Yang sees the film as a “think piece about race within the system” and a “queer API love story.” The directors, Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, deliberately cast Yang, who is Korean American, to bring diversity to the character and explore power dynamics. Yang praises the film’s exploration of binaries and its deconstruction of historical hero-villain narratives.
