General Motors (GM) has acquired Israeli software startup Algolion, which specializes in detecting potential hazards in battery cells. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but GM confirmed that Algolion’s six employees, including its founders, will remain in Israel and join GM’s Technical Center in Herzliya. Algolion’s software is crucial for automakers scaling their electric vehicles (EVs), as it uses data streams from EV battery management systems to identify anomalies and hazards. GM hopes this acquisition will help improve the performance and safety of its EVs. The purchase was made by GM’s new Technology Acceleration and Commercialization organization.
