Narathiwat: Exploring the Natural Wonders of Southern Thailand
As a National Geographic journalist, I had the privilege of visiting Narathiwat, a small city located in the southernmost region of Thailand. Raw beauty, nature, and an opportunity to explore the local culture were some of the most enlightening aspects of the city.
The scenic routes through the city are a must-see, as they offer stunning views of mountain ranges and lush greenery. One such place is the Pattayakul Viewpoint, which has recently gained immense popularity in the region. While it cannot be accessed directly by car, a challenging hike of about an hour will take you to the top. The view of the vast stretches of land and a forest will be a reward the entire journey.
Narathiwat also boasts stunning beaches, and one of the most famous ones is the Bang Nara Beach. The sweeping stretch of golden sand and the crystal-clear water radiates pure bliss with every grain of sand.
There are several things that I enjoyed about the city, including its serene and peaceful environment. However, some aspects of the city require improvement, like the lack of connectivity to some parts of town, which is disappointing.
If you are planning on traveling on a budget, Narathiwat is perfect for you, as the average cost of living for a day is around $25.
