Two additional shelters have been opened in Mae Sariang district of Thailand’s Mae Hong Son province to accommodate refugees escaping the fighting between Myanmar government forces and Karenni rebels near the Thai border. The Ban Jorpadee and Ban Unu shelters now house a total of 806 refugees, in addition to the existing Ban Sao Hin shelter, which is accommodating over 3,000 refugees. These remote border villages have received donations of food, water, and other necessities from Thai people and state agencies, despite their difficult accessibility. Refugees have expressed concerns about air attacks from Myanmar military aircraft, prompting their escape to the Thai side of the border.
