Reddit has informed moderators of private protesting communities that they will lose their mod status by the end of the week if they do not express interest in actively moderating the subreddit. Some moderators have stated that they want to reopen their communities but only if Reddit makes changes. This comes after escalating messages from Reddit indicating possible action against these moderators. Over 8,000 communities went offline earlier this month protesting against API pricing changes, but most have since reopened, with around 2,300 still private or restricted.
