People downstream of the Bhumibol and Sirikit dams in Thailand have been advised to use water sparingly as water levels in the reservoirs continue to decrease due to a lack of rainfall. The Bhumibol dam is currently at 49.7% capacity, discharging 30 million cubic metres of water downstream to sustain consumption and preserve the ecological system. The Sirikit dam is at 39% capacity with only 800 million cubic metres available for discharge. Concerns have been raised about a potential water shortage next year due to decreased rainfall. However, it is expected that 2.6 billion cubic metres of water will flow into the Bhumibol dam during the current rainy season.
