With four episodes down and only one left, Sam Levinson’s The Idol has somehow based its entire existence on vibes. While the creators might think that this is the whole point of it all—to feel—it doesn’t necessarily make for the most compelling television. The lack of a plot and zero character development have made the series dull and unengaging. Despite its focus on vibes, it fails to deliver substance or a cohesive story. The Idol is ending earlier than expected, and with little connection to the characters or plot, the abrupt ending won’t have much impact. The series has been underwhelming and lacks the substance that viewers expect.
