The Christmas action classic Die Hard was based on the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. The book is a sequel to Thorp’s earlier novel, The Detective, which was adapted into a Die Hard prequel starring Frank Sinatra. The main characters in the book and film have some differences, but both share a tendency to defy authority and take off their shoes at the worst moments. The motivations of the villains also differ, with the book featuring a politically motivated terrorist and the film focusing on a thief. Other differences include the absence of the FBI and a darker ending in the novel.
