‘Back to the Future,’ ‘Top Gun’ Actor Was 94

James Tolkan, the renowned character actor known for his roles in the “Back to the Future” trilogy and “Top Gun,” has passed away at 94 in Saranac Lake, New York. He gained fame for portraying intense characters, including Hill Valley principal Mr. Strickland and Tom “Stinger” Jardian. Tolkan’s extensive filmography includes appearances in “Love and Death,” “Dick Tracy,” and films directed by Sidney Lumet. He was also part of the original Broadway cast of “Glengarry Glen Ross.” Born on June 20, 1931, he studied at The Actors Studio and began acting onscreen in 1960. He is survived by his wife, Parmelee.
