Philippine president declares national energy emergency to respond to impact of Middle East war

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of national energy emergency in response to the impact of the Middle East war, citing a critically low energy supply. Measures include the distribution of essential goods, action against hoarding and profiteering, and preparations for possible evacuation of Filipinos in the Middle East. Financial assistance is being provided to transport workers, while free bus rides are offered to students and workers in selected cities. Tragically, Filipina caregiver Mary Ann de Vera was killed in a missile strike in Tel Aviv. Approximately 2.4 million Filipinos reside and work in the Middle East.
