Stephen Colbert is set to pen a new Lord of the Rings movie, collaborating with Philippa Boyens and Peter McGee. The announcement, made with Peter Jackson, indicates the film will focus on unutilized chapters from The Fellowship of the Ring, specifically “Three Is Company” through “Fog on the Barrow-downs.” Colbert, a lifelong Tolkien fan, has worked with his son Peter to develop the story. The movie, titled The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, follows Sam’s daughter Elanor as she uncovers a secret fourteen years after the War of the Ring. Colbert’s previous role as host of The Late Show concludes on May 21.
