China’s Chery International is planning to establish an electric vehicle (EV) production facility in Thailand, pending Board of Investment (BoI) privileges. Through its subsidiary Omoda & Jaecoo International Co, Chery aims to introduce two EV brands, Omoda and Jaecoo, in Thailand. The company’s investment plan consists of three phases, targeting an annual EV production capacity of 18,000 units in the first phase, increasing to 50,000 units in the second phase, and expanding beyond 100,000 units in the third phase. Chery is in talks with Thai partners for a potential long-term EV manufacturing joint venture. Thailand’s government approval of the “EV 3.5” scheme is crucial for Chery’s investment.
