The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has partnered with Google to repurpose electronic waste into learning tools for students at 437 city schools. More than 400,000 electronic devices, including computers and phones, become e-waste in Thailand annually, often discarded due to performance issues. Google’s Director of Marketing, Mike Jittivanich, highlighted that converting old laptops to Chrome OS Flex can extend their lifespan by up to five to ten years while reducing power consumption and carbon footprint. Google and the BMA plan to distribute 130,000 refurbished devices with the updated OS to schools over the next three years.
