Chiang Rai officials have successfully rescued a 29-year-old woman, known as Nam, from a human trafficking ring in Myanmar. Nam had been coerced into providing sexual services to call center employees by Chinese perpetrators. The rescue mission was carried out after a citizen journalist alerted the police and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. Thai officials utilized the National Referral Mechanism to locate Nam in a Chinese-operated call center in Myanmar. This incident highlights the dangers of enticing job offers in foreign countries and the increasing challenge of human trafficking carried out through social media and mobile applications.
