The Gulf of Thailand and the Sattahip district of Chon Buri will serve as the training grounds for the “Blue Strike-2023” joint naval exercise, involving China and Thailand. Participation from Chinese warships and submarines has been confirmed for this annual drill. The exercise aims to share naval expertise, prepare for potential humanitarian assistance and disaster relief situations, carry out naval operations, and foster military relations. The Chinese ships have arrived at the training site and a welcoming ceremony was held for senior Chinese officers. The training will focus on sniping tactics, jungle survival, maritime search and rescue, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense. The goal is to enhance joint capabilities to tackle regional security threats. The Thai navy has also approved the use of Chinese-made engines for one of their submarines currently being assembled. They also plan to allocate funds to recover a sunken ship.
