Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is pushing for visa-free travel in an effort to boost tourism, specifically targeting Chinese visitors. While Thailand has seen a total of 17.6 million foreign tourists from January to August 2023, Chinese visitors are coming at a slower pace than anticipated. The top five nationalities visiting Thailand are Malaysians, Chinese, South Koreans, Indians, and Russians. PM Srettha aims to implement the visa-free policy by October 1 to attract more tourists. The tourism sector is hopeful that an increase in flights and the waiving of visa fees will help exceed the target of 5 million Chinese tourists.
