HM the King has granted a Royal commutation, reducing the prison term of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra from eight years to one. The decision was based on Thaksin’s loyalty to the Monarchy, his past contributions as prime minister, and his acknowledgement of his wrongdoings. In addition, Thaksin’s medical condition and advanced age were taken into consideration. The King hopes that Thaksin will continue to use his knowledge and experience to benefit the country, society, and its people.
