Two cases of the Omicron sub-variant HK.3 have been found in Thailand, with both patients already recovered from the infection. The two cases were from the same family and had mild symptoms. The director-general of the Medical Sciences Department stated that it will take two weeks to determine the transmissibility of this new sub-variant. In the past two weeks, 15 cases of the EG.5 sub-variant were detected, suggesting it may replace XBB.1.16 as the dominant sub-variant in Thailand. The BA.2.86 sub-variant was found in wastewater but has not been detected in humans yet.
