Early Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a tool that can help health innovations meet the needs of the global health system. It was utilized by the World Health Organization (WHO) during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The approach was explained at a workshop organized by the HITAP Foundation and the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, along with leading agencies in Thailand. Early HTA assesses the potential impacts of healthcare technology and evaluates factors that can make an innovation desirable and marketable. It also helps in determining if it is worth investing in the research and development of a health innovation. The collaboration aims to advance medical innovation and the healthcare system, reduce healthcare costs, and guide other ASEAN countries in evaluating new technologies.
