Just a few hours after Prime Minister-elect Srettha Thavisin completed his cabinet list, the name of Phichit Chuenban, the long-time legal counsel to the Shinawatra family, was added as the PM Office Minister. Phichit’s appointment is believed to be part of the Shinawatra quota, as he previously worked closely with Thaksin Shinawatra and Yingluck Shinawatra. Despite being jailed for bribery in 2008, Phichit is eligible for the ministerial seat as he was imprisoned by court order, not by conviction. Phichit’s involvement in various political parties and legal disputes has made him a controversial figure.
