Terry Gou, billionaire founder of Foxconn, has announced his candidacy for the 2024 Presidential Election in Taiwan. Gou, who previously failed to become the nominee for the opposition Kuomintang party, is positioning himself as a leader who can promote peace between Taiwan and China. However, analysts believe his chances of winning are slim, with three other opposition candidates in the race against the ruling Democratic Progressive Party’s nominee, Lai Ching-te. Gou has called on the opposition camp to work together and find candidates that meet the expectations of the people. He needs 290,000 signatures to qualify as an independent candidate.
