Thailand’s Digital Economy and Society Minister has directed Google to remove or block access to a deceptive “digital wallet” app from its Play Store. The app was created by scammers who exploited the election campaign of a prime minister candidate and enticed users to register for a fake 10,000 baht digital transfer. The app had the potential to grant unauthorized access to mobile banking applications. The minister urged citizens not to download the app, as the digital wallet policy had not been approved. To combat scams, people were advised to contact a hotline for assistance.
