To protect consumers, Thailand’s Internal Trade Department has launched a nationwide check on the accuracy of vendor weighing machines. Officials have seized 90 substandard sets of scales and fined vendors for cheating customers. Scales used for weighing fruit in southern provinces, where durian and mangosteen are harvested, as well as longan in northern provinces, will be checked. Additionally, officials will ensure that fruit vendors are displaying prices as required by law. Customers or fruit growers who suspect cheating can contact the Internal Trade Department.
