A report from ad quality transparency platform Adalytics reveals that YouTube has been serving inappropriate adult-focused ads on nearly 100 videos that are targeted towards children. These ads include content such as car wrecks, medical injuries, and clips from mature TV shows. Adalytics discovered that the ads linked to websites that transmitted cookies, enabling targeted ads to be served to children. Google’s own policies prohibit the use of third-party trackers or collecting personal information without parental consent. Adalytics’ findings have caught the attention of lawmakers and has led some major companies to advise clients to pause ads on YouTube. Google is already under scrutiny for previous misleading ad placement.
