Following a tip-off, the Thalang Police in Phuket detained 18 individuals involved in illegal gambling activities. The raid took place at a local venue where eight men were engaged in cockfighting and ten others were playing Sic Bo. Cash, a stopwatch, gambling sheets, dice, and betting chips were seized as evidence. The detained individuals, including a woman known as “Ya,” were transported to the Thalang Police Station. The bust highlights the issue of illegal gambling in low-paid manual labor communities, which is fueled by socio-economic challenges. Efforts are being made to counteract this trend through rehabilitative intervention programs.
